This week’s soccer workout video was originally going to be about something different, but then we got about 14 inches of snow overnight. I decided to film a soccer ball control workout that could be done anywhere (a living room, basement, etc) because a lot of players would not be able to make it to a field.

This workout contains 3 soccer ball control drills that help you develop your ball control and light, gentle touches on the ball.

The first drill is toe taps with a roll down. Do 4 toe taps, then on your fifth touch, roll your foot down the ball like you were doing the roll down outside soccer drill. Do 4 more toe taps, then roll your other foot down the ball. Continue this until you’ve done 10 roll downs with each foot. This should be approx. 100 touches.

Secondly, do 10 V-Turns by pushing the ball out at a 45 degree angle, then pulling it back with the sole of your foot and pushing it at a 90 degree angle to your other direction. Catch the with the same foot you pushed it out with, pull it back, then push it 90 degrees toward your other foot. This motion forms a “V” motion, hence the name “V-Turns.”

Finally, do 10 outside outside insides across your body in each direction. Take 2 sideways touches with the outside of your foot. Stop the ball with the inside of that same foot. Then take the ball and push it 2 touches in the other direction with your other foot. With this foot, take one inside touch to stop the ball. Continue in this pattern until you’ve done 10 outside outside insides in each direction.

Repeat this entire sequence 5 times. It should add up to about 900 touches.
