This week’s soccer tutorial is a move you can do to beat a keeper in a one on one situation. It’s very simple, which is good in a situation like this because one on ones with goalkeepers happen very quickly, so simpler is usually better.

Start off by dribbling the ball at the keeper. Take a large step past the ball in one direction. It doesn’t matter as much if you step over the ball or how close your foot comes to the ball. What matters is that you make a large, quick motion in one direction. The goal of this movement is to get the keeper to lay out for the ball.

Once the keeper lays out for the ball, take a sideways touch in the other direction around the keeper. This may need to be a fairly large touch to get the ball completely clear.

Finally, once the ball is past the keeper, don’t panic! It’s easy to hit the ball as hard as you can and accidentally miss the goal. Instead, force yourself to remain poised and composed and just tap the ball in the goal!
