When trying to get shots on goal in a game, it’s common to have to do quick cuts, receive a ball, beat a defender, and get a shot on goal. Unfortunately, this is often difficult to practice with an individual soccer drill. This week’s soccer dribbling drill is designed to simulate making long runs, quick cuts to get open, then beating a defender and getting a shot on goal.

To do this drill, take 3 cones and set them up 10 yards from each other outside the 18 yard box.

Start with the ball on the endline. Dribble to the far cone. Leave the ball at that cone. Quickly sprint back and touch the ground next to the middle cone. Sprint back to the ball and dribble it towards the goal.

When you get to the cone closest to the goal, do a move and go around the cone, then have a shot on goal.

This drill basically simulates dribbling up the field with the ball, quickly laying it off, doing a quick cut to get open, then receiving the ball, beating the last defender, and having a shot on goal. It forces you to maintain control of the ball even at high speeds and while making quick cuts.
