This week’s soccer workout is a set of drills you can do at home to develop your ball retention and ball control drills. Ball retention is very important as it helps keep you from losing the ball to defenders.

None of these drills require much space, so they can be done in a basement, living room, garage, or anywhere you can find a little space.

Drill #1 – Push and drags

To do this drill, tap the ball across your body with the inside of your foot. With the sole of your other foot, quickly drag the ball back across your body to the foot that you started with.

Drill #2 – Outsides and taps

With the outside of your foot, push the ball outside your body. Take a slight hop and tap the ball with one foot. Switch feet and tap the ball with your other foot. With the outside of that foot, take a single touch in the other direction.

Drill #3 – Tocks and Rolldowns

Tap the ball back and forth across your body with the insides of your feet 4 times (tick Tocks). After the 4th touch, roll your foot down the outside of the ball and push it across your body. Do 4 more tick tocks and roll your other foot down the outside of the ball.
