In honor of the World Cup, this week’s video is a tutorial on how to take a penalty kick like Neymar, Brazil’s star striker. Neymar has a strange lead up to his shot that confuses goalkeepers and (sometimes) helps him score on his penalty kicks.

To take a penalty kick like Neymar does, there are 4 simple steps.

Step 1 –

Make sure you have a good lead up to the ball. Give yourself room to perform all the parts of this penalty kick.

Step 2 –

Take 1-2 strides toward the ball at full strength.

Step 3 –

Slow or stop your forward momentum and take 3-5 stutter steps. This is important because the change in momentum is what throws off the goalkeeper.

Step 4 –

Take 1-2 strides forward and strike the ball at full power.

Pay attention to the way the goalkeeper moves during your lead-up. This may give you a clue as to where to place the ball with your shot.
